PARIS • Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe fuelled speculation surrounding his future on Sunday, saying he wants "responsibilities, maybe at PSG, maybe elsewhere".
The 20-year-old backed up his outstanding World Cup campaign in Russia, where he scored four times as France lifted the trophy, to net 38 times in all competitions for his club this term.
He was named both the Ligue 1 Player of the Season and Young Player of the Year on Sunday, but hinted at a move away from the French champions.
After claiming his prize, he told beIN Sports: "It (the award) is an important moment for me, a turning point in my career... I am whole. When I say something, I think about it. If it's at PSG, it's good, if it's elsewhere, it will be elsewhere for a new challenge."
Mbappe has been regularly linked with a blockbuster move to Real Madrid since his breakthrough with Monaco's 2017 Ligue 1 title-winning team. Instead, he made the switch to PSG last summer on loan, and will seal a permanent deal for €180 million (S$276.2 million) this year.
But since Zinedine Zidane's return to the Real dugout earlier this year, rumours about Mbappe joining his compatriot at the Santiago Bernabeu have intensified.
This season, the forward has stepped up another gear with teammate Neymar - the only player to be sold for more money than him in football history - out injured for a significant part of PSG's campaign.
Mbappe has followed in the Brazil international's footsteps by winning the highest individual domestic accolade, although he needs to score five in the last league game against Reims this weekend to snatch the European Golden Shoe from Barcelona's Lionel Messi.
He said it was "a source of pride to think that maybe I kept up with him until the last game", adding: "I tell myself that even if I lose (the scoring race), I lose to Messi, one of the greatest players in history."
He became only the second teenager, after Brazil legend Pele, to score in a World Cup final during France's 4-2 triumph over Croatia and his departure would be a blow for PSG. They were knocked out in the Champions League last 16 by Manchester United in embarrassing fashion this season.
PSG coach Thomas Tuchel has, however, claimed that "there are no opportunities for other clubs to buy Kylian this summer".
The German, whose job is under serious pressure after their European humiliation and failure to win multiple trophies for the first time since 2013, insisted: "I've always been convinced that he'll always be our player. This is important to achieve all our objectives."

LONDON • Little over 60 hours after their extraordinary Champions League drama, Manchester City and Tottenham will face each other again at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow, this time in the Premier League.
City's dream of a quadruple of titles ended with their away-goals loss to Spurs on Wednesday.
The destiny of the English title remains in the hands of Pep Guardiola's side, however, and they know that if they win their remaining five games, they will retain their title.
Yet this is now a major test of their character after what was a crushing exit from Europe. A late Raheem Sterling goal that would have sent City through was ruled out for offside following a review by the video assistant referee.
Said Guardiola: "We have to stand up and react. It is a (short) time and the same team. We can't think too much now. We have to try to sleep as much as possible and prepare for the game."
City have won the League Cup and will face Watford in the final of the FA Cup, meaning a treble remains a realistic objective.
"We have fought for nine or 10 months in the Premier League and still we are there. It is in our hands. Today is tough and tomorrow will be tough too but, the day after, we will be ready," added the Spaniard.
City are on 83 points and two behind leaders Liverpool, but have a game in hand - although it is at city rivals Manchester United next Wednesday.
Liverpool will expect to pick up three points at Cardiff on Sunday, although the 18th-placed team have been boosted by Tuesday's win at Brighton that kept alive their hopes of avoiding relegation.
City winger Bernardo Silva said there is no time to wallow in misery, as he rallied his teammates to give a final push for domestic glory.
"We have a game in three days against Tottenham, again here at home," said the 24-year-old.
"We need the three points to win (the league). Obviously, we are very disappointed, but we will have to forget about it and go for the competitions we are still in.
"It is not time for revenge; it is time for another competition, time to keep us alive in the title race.
"We will try to win the game in the same way we did, knowing we are playing against a very good team.
"We know Liverpool will probably win all their games, so we have to win all our games too."
Third-placed Spurs have plenty to play for as well. The battle for a top-four finish and qualification for the Champions League is tight with Arsenal and Chelsea just a point behind and sixth-placed United three points adrift.

LONDON (REUTERS) - A body has been recovered from the wreckage of the plane that was carrying Argentina-born professional soccer player Emiliano Sala and pilot David Ibbotson, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) in Britain said late on Wednesday (Feb 6).
The agency did not disclose the identity of the body.
Sala, 28, had been en route from Nantes in western France on Jan 21 to make his debut for Premier League team Cardiff City when the plane disappeared over the English Channel.
The wreckage was found on Sunday following a privately-funded underwater search. Two seat cushions were discovered on the French coast that likely belonged to the aircraft.
A body was visible inside when the wreckage was on the seabed near Guernsey, air accident investigators had said on Monday.
The body was "successfully recovered" but attempts to recover the aircraft wreckage were unsuccessful, the AAIB said in a statement on Wednesday. The overall operation was brought to an end due to "poor weather conditions," the agency said.
Sala had agreed to join Welsh club Cardiff for a club-record fee of £15 million (S$26.31 million) from French Ligue 1 club Nantes. He and the pilot are believed to have died as the single-engined Piper Malibu aircraft crashed into the sea.

 
On Saturday at Cardiff's home Premier League match against Bournemouth, the Cardiff players held up a T-shirt bearing the image of Sala, who never played a game for the club, after the team scored in the fifth minute.

 
 
Fans were handed daffodils as they entered the Cardiff City Stadium. In the 28th minute, a round of applause swelled around the stadium as fans sang Sala's name.
On Jan 30, Nantes payed tribute to their former player. Referee Frank Schneider stopped play in the Ligue 1 match against St Etienne for a minute of applause during which Nantes coach Vahid Halilhodzic was in tears.

Having taken up arguably the hottest seat in Singapore sport, I hope you know what you are in for with your first international assignment.
Your credentials have already been questioned and your command of English criticised but you can still prove them wrong.
I actually admire and appreciate how you were game enough to field questions in a foreign language at Thursday's press conference, even though you had a translator.
In any case, our most successful ringmaster ever was a chain-smoking Serb Radojko Avramovic who sometimes left people guessing what he just said with his gruff and mumbly diction.
He affectionately called Singapore fans "five million coaches", as there is no lack of persons, qualified or not, with an opinion of what the national coach should or should not do. Yet, Raddy delivered three Asean titles. So, ignore the haters and let your football (coaching) do the talking.
Like you said, communication will be key. And knowing English, and consequently Singlish, is not your first language, may I take the liberty to introduce you to some key words in our football lexicon.

 
There was a time when our Lions roared on the regional stage. But after three straight group-stage eliminations from the AFF Suzuki Cup, we have been reduced to whimpering pussycats of late.
We are looking to you to restore the semangat - which is similar to the Japanese concepts of seishin and tamashii - and revive the energy and enthusiasm, soul and spirit in the team.
You will have ideas about how Singapore football could improve, perhaps through the use of technology for example, but you may meet with a response that has frustrated previous coaches.
It is essentially known as money no enough.
Sport in Singapore generally does not enjoy as much corporate financial support as it does in your country. Vissel Kobe midfielder Andres Iniesta's $38.5 million annual salary tops the Football Association of Singapore's budget, for about four years. And football is the most well-funded sport here.
As a result, you will learn to make a little go a long way. And that applies to human resources too.
Ideally, you will have your best players at every Fifa international window, but next week, you will already miss having two of the nation's top young players - Irfan and Ikhsan Fandi - for the international friendlies against Solomon Islands and Myanmar.
They will play in the U-22 Merlion Cup instead. The situation may well be replicated during the subsequent Nov 11-19 window, when the duo is likely to play in the SEA Games, another U-22 tournament.
The SEA Games gold, which Singapore have never won, is prized by local sports authorities, who rightly or wrongly, sometimes place more importance on than the national team's endeavours.
It results in a biennial tussle for players. At least three players could not join the Lions for that memorable 0-0 World Cup qualifying draw in Japan because they had to stay with the SEA Games team in 2015.
But this is just how things are in Singapore - different people express patriotism in different ways.
One of them is national service, in which all Singaporean males have to be conscripted for around two years. This includes your talent pool, who may not be able to train and play regularly.
Agreeing to the initial two-year contract means you are essentially saying boleh, that you can deal with all these constraints and challenges and try and establish for the Lions a football identity that has been missing for years.
Given adequate time and support, I hope you will realise and internalise the spirit of our national anthem Majulah Singapura, which means "Onward Singapore".
You have astutely asked for unity among administrators, coaches, players, and Singaporeans in general. Hopefully, these various stakeholders can live up to the lyrics "Marilah kita bersatu/dengan semangat yang baru" which translates into "Come, let us unite with a new spirit", as we usher in a new football era under your reign.
